Nice tourists were surprised to find the Bellanda Tower adorned with a colorful banner this Saturday morning. It is the work of supporters of the PCF and the Left Front who protested the arrival of political bigwigs from the UMP and FN in the city of Nice.

About ten activists from the PCF and the Left Front unfurled a banner that read “FN-UMP: let’s get rid of them” from the top of the Bellanda Tower, facing the Promenade des Anglais. About forty activists present on-site wanted to denounce the policies implemented by these “enemies of the people” parties.
This was not the first time for these far-left activists. As admitted by the young man distributing pamphlets at the top of the tower, under the watchful eyes of two police officers: “It has been planned since we carried out our action against the banks (Note: a banner “make the banks pay, not the people” was displayed at the end of August), it’s the best place for good visibility and a great opportunity to catch up with friends.”
All clichés are covered
After the Internationale was sung for a few minutes, the thirty or so activists at the bottom of the tower shouted encouragements via loudspeaker to those “brave” few holding the banner a few dozen meters above: “Don’t drop the banner!” “No, we won’t let it go, we’ll hold on!”
Red smoke flares were then lit, and the loudspeaker siren blared. A tourist complained: “They’re smoking out the entire park” even as the wind prevented the smoke flares from spreading toward the promenade and the city. Last stand or grand finale, it marked the end of this action.
The national police van left the castle park at noon. The only trace of this happening, which lasted less than an hour, was a PCF sticker on the stairs leading to the tower, still visible late in the afternoon.
