During a press conference at the City Hall, the Retrouver Nice representative calls for concrete measures in response to what he describes as an “Islamist Brotherhood influence” over the city.
On Thursday, May 22, Philippe Vardon, an elected official from the Retrouver Nice movement, held a press conference at the City Hall to denounce what he referred to as a “massive influence” by the Muslim Brotherhood in Nice. He relies on a recently declassified government report indicating a growing influence of this Islamist movement across the national territory. “In Nice, this influence is longstanding, structured, and deeply rooted” he asserted. He accuses local public authorities of having for years facilitated this establishment through partnerships and the provision of facilities. He repeatedly insists: “I have been warning about these connections for 15 years. No one can say they didn’t know.”
Philippe Vardon demands clear breaks
Philippe Vardon calls for the end of the municipality’s relations with UMAM (Union of Muslims of the Alpes-Maritimes), which he considers a local affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood. He also calls on Côte d’Azur Habitat to refrain from selling facilities to the Al-Aqwa mosque, and demands a clear stance from the municipality: “every interaction with these structures reinforces their legitimacy. They should be marginalized, not integrated.” The representative announced that he will present these demands at the municipal council this Friday, through an oral question.
