This Saturday, June 25, ASVEL hosted AS Monaco for the fifth and final game of the Betclic Elite Finals. Before this game, both teams were tied in the series (2-2).
It’s a third consecutive title for the Lyon-Villeurbanne team, which, after a fiercely contested overtime, won at home in front of their supporters with a score of 84 to 82.
This victory for ASVEL was made possible notably thanks to the French players Elie Okobo (20 points – 7 rebounds – 9 assists – Finals MVP), William Howard (15 points – 9 rebounds – 22 evaluation – match MVP), and Youssoupha Fall (14 points – 5 rebounds), who led their team to victory. We can also highlight the shooting accuracy in 2-point and 3-point shots by the Villeurbanne team compared to the team from the Rock (52.5% success rate in 2-point shots against 45.1% for AS Monaco and 36.4% success rate in 3-point shots against 19% for AS Monaco).
On the side of the Principality’s team, it was the American players Mike James (16 points – 10 rebounds), Alpha Diallo (14 points – 6 rebounds), and Dwayne Bacon (14 points – 8 rebounds), accompanied by Lithuanian center Donatas Motiejunas (11 points), who tried to keep their team alive until the end. However, it wasn’t enough to dethrone the title holder at home, at the Astroballe.
With this new victory, the Villeurbanne team now counts 21 French Championship titles. For the Roca Team, they will still have to wait to secure their first highly coveted French Championship title by their passionate supporters.
