The press reports how Mr. Christian Estrosi, having to travel to Washington, could not catch his reserved seat on a regular flight due to a delay caused by his attendance at a private meeting of the President’s loyalists, and thus found himself forced to use a Dassault Falcon Service private jet to make the Paris-Washington round trip back to… Nice. The cost of the journey: 138,000 euros, according to Le Canard enchaîné.
In light of the bill’s amount, Mr. Estrosi, quite embarrassed, did indeed apologize, but he did not offer to settle the bill or at least the portion due to his own irresponsibility. One even wonders whether this arrival in Nice should not be charged to his campaign expenses.
In his role as a Minister of the Republic as well as the President of the General Council, Christian Estrosi evidently cannot resist the excesses that absolute power entails, all at the expense of both national and local taxpayers.
It is feared that if Mr. Estrosi becomes mayor of Nice, this type of behavior will continue and this time, it will be the people of Nice who will bear the costs.”

“This decision, made without even organizing any debate worthy of the name, without even reconsulting the professionals, is a denial of democracy, a real scandal.
I have no doubt that the law was technically adhered to in letter, but it certainly was not in spirit. When one starts asking ‘what is the point of a judicial decision?’ it is always very worrying.
This is the UMP system clearly stating: ‘file whatever appeals you want, we don’t care!’
This gives us a taste of what is to come if tomorrow the Estrosi system were put in place in the city.”
