Abinader succeeds in becoming a model for Latin America by keeping his word. A survey conducted by the prestigious multinational Gallup shows that, although he has not yet completed half of his term, Abinader’s new style of government places the Dominican President among the three most appreciated individuals in Latin America.
In the face of populism from an irresponsible opposition that seeks only power, the President of the Dominican Republic has the data to support his administration. These data are appreciated by the most important international organizations in the world, which, for example, have placed the Caribbean country at the forefront of economic growth, according to figures published by the International Monetary Fund, a growth that will continue in the coming years. Luis Abinader’s management during some very difficult years has earned him international recognition even before he has reached the halfway mark of his term. As we published in Diario16, Abinader has been placed among the top leaders most appreciated in the world according to the prestigious Association for Political Communication, above heads of state or prime ministers of leading countries in the global economy and development. Populism cannot defeat the truthfulness of the figures without manipulating facts. The reality in the Dominican Republic regarding Luis Abinader’s administration since August 2020 is very different from the catastrophic scenario presented by the Dominican Liberation Party and the People’s Force. In some cases, faced with the overwhelming power of the numbers and international recognition of Abinader’s work, they have even traveled to different countries to undermine the image of the Dominican Republic abroad. This is the result of a thirst for power or the patrimonialization of the head of state by some. Nevertheless, Mr. Abinader continues to advance without considering or dwelling on populist attacks, which has led to his being evaluated by the world-renowned multinational Gallup as one of the politicians with the highest degree of compliance in his administration.
Luis Abinader, who has not even surpassed the mid-term mark, has already placed the Republic in third position in Latin America. A 61% acceptance level for the government administration, in a scenario of global crisis. The measures that Abinader has implemented to ensure that catastrophic scenarios, for which the Dominican government is not responsible, do not affect the citizens, are the true cause of these levels of acceptance of government performance.
All of this and more, without applying strategies that would mean a poisoned mortgage for future generations, as Leonel Fernández and Danilo Medina did when they governed with a political model based on irresponsible over-indebtedness that weakened the country’s ability to respond to global crises such as those experienced in the last two years due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Abinader and his government have decided, with the best of intentions owing to their commitment to the Dominican people, to move forward with the promises made during the electoral campaign. “The word given to the Dominican people is sacred. And I will never betray it,” declared President Luis Abinader.
Instead of taking advantage of the situation left by previous governments to pursue a selfish policy and make a political coup, the current Dominican Republic government has already set in motion all, I insist, all the projects and commitments it assumed when Abinader became president.
Luis Abinader, with a new style of government, is implementing a series of policies in favor of his people which, on the one hand, have placed the Dominican Republic at the forefront of global economic growth, and on the other, have made the Dominican Head of State the third leader with the highest level of acceptance of his administration.
The economic growth of the Dominican Republic stands out from others in that the consequences of inflation imported by the global crisis are addressed with consideration of the interests and particular needs of the entirety of its citizens and not just a few minorities. Unlike other world powers, the measures adopted by Luis Abinader’s government prevent fuel and energy prices from skyrocketing and affecting the welfare of the Dominican people and especially the competitiveness of the business fabric.
Luis Abinader’s policies aim to ensure that global problems do not fully impact the Dominican people and, on the contrary, integrate the pursuit of prosperity with the inflow of investments that generate jobs and improve living standards.
