Invited on Wednesday, October 6th, to the morning show on BFM RMC, the mayor of Nice announced his intention to support Emmanuel Macron in the 2022 presidential campaign.
“The presidential majority of tomorrow cannot be the same as today’s,” Mr. Estrosi stated, clarifying that the support he will offer to the President of the Republic, “if he is a candidate, will not be unconditional.”
Last May, the mayor of Nice officially left the Republicans party. He said at the time that it was “a painful decision for the Gaullist that I am.”
Reactions were quick to follow, starting with the Republican-Zemmourist, candidate for the right-wing primary, Eric Ciotti, who in an unfriendly message said that Christian Estrosi had shown his true colors.
It remains to be seen if the President of the Republic is indeed a candidate! For now, he has not declared.
