For their last match of the season, Stade Niçois put on a final show for their fans. Against Dax, the Niçois delivered a solid performance. Dominated by the strength of their forward pack, the red and blacks scored two tries on driving mauls through their hooker Idoumi, in his final match before moving to Valence-Romans next season. But Dax hung on and stayed within reach of the Niçois, who went into halftime with a six-point lead, at 19 to 13.
The backs took over
While the forwards did the work in the first forty minutes, it was the Niçois backs who stood out during the next forty minutes. Odiete, Jeune Joly, and Asquini electrified the game with line breaks and sharp play setups that troubled the Dax defense.
This was highlighted by the fifth Niçois try. Following a skip pass from Asquini, Beaufils outpaced the Dax winger then executed a brilliant backhand pass to his fly-half, who retrieved the ball, kicked ahead, and dived over the line. A stunning try that capped off this last match of the season. Despite some tense moments at the end of the match, the celebration remained joyful at Marcel Volot stadium, and Stade Niçois concluded their first season in Pro D2 in the best possible way.
