This Prom’ Classic 2011 is already shaping up to be a new success with a record participation of 6000 registrants and an increasingly competitive elite line-up.
Indeed, since January 2, registrations for the Prom’ Classic have closed. Thus, 6000 participants will gather at the start on both roadways of the Promenade des Anglais this Sunday, January 9. (Editor’s note: 9:55 a.m. for women and 10:00 a.m. for men).
PRESENTATION OF THE ELITE ATHLETES THE DAY BEFORE THE EVENT
On Saturday, January 8 at 3:00 p.m., do not miss the traditional press briefing the day before for the presentation of the 2011 athlete line-up, which will be held as usual at the Running Expo Nike village. (Jacques Cotta Space in Nice).
This meeting will allow collecting the impressions of those who will set the pace on Sunday for this 12th edition of the Prom’ Classic.
THE FAVORITES OF THE COMPETITION
On the men’s side, Zioni BADREDINE emerges as one of the great favorites of the competition. Winner of the Prom’ Classic last year, where he recorded his best performance and Vice-Champion of France in the 10,000 m in 2010 in 29’23’’38, he holds a personal record of 29’02’’.
But this year, the spot for victory will not be the easiest. Indeed, BADREDINE will face serious competitors with times close to that of the Prom’ Classic (Editor’s note: still held since 2007 by Saïd TBIBI in 28’38’’).
Thus, regulars like Loïc LETTELIER, 2nd in the Prom’ Classic in 2010 in 29’05’’ with a personal record of 28’41’’, and Larbi ZEROUAL, 3rd in 2007 (best performance in 28’47’’), will be formidable adversaries. But one must not forget the newcomers to the event, such as Lahssini EL HASSAN (best time of 28’22’’), or Kiprotich ABRAHAM (28’39’’).
Among the women, Christelle DAUNAY is undoubtedly the big favorite of the competition. French record holder in the marathon with 2h24’22’’ and in the half-marathon with 1h08’34’’ in 2010
