Gather at 3:00 PM in front of the prefecture

Yesterday immigration and identityโ€ฆ
Today immigration and securityโ€ฆ
But where are Human Rights and the Labor Code?
Where has sustainable development gone?

In our region, many people contribute in the shadows to the tourism and luxury industry. Last
year, the actions of the Alpes Maritimes collective allowed the regularization of about a hundred undocumented individuals,
our active solidarity helps to uphold the freedom of movement. We call on the Prefecture to regularize the members of our collective.
In particular, women who often work in personal service and have little proof of employment; like
undeclared workers, especially those in construction; workers laid off because they initiated a
regularization process; Tunisians and Algerians, who are still excluded from regularization through employment.
We want everyone to be regularized, WE DO NOT WANT CASE-BY-CASE PROCESSING!
How can we accept this situation, which fosters undocumented work, thereby
encouraging tax and social fraud? The labor inspections,
under the guise of combating undeclared work, more closely
resemble a hunt of foreign humans and have nothing to do with the so-called
โ€œfight against trafficking, the modern-day slave traders.โ€
Why does the government persist in penalizing undocumented workers who are forced to work ‘off the
books’ by their employers, even though they honestly declare their income?
It is only just to regularize undocumented workers who
actively participate in the economy in sectors such as construction, hospitality, temporary work…
By regularizing undocumented and undeclared workers (about 1/3 or 100,000), it would allow significant amounts of social contribution revenues and fight against undeclared work which
also affects many French people.
The treatment of undocumented people is a trial ground preparing the way for repression against other foreigners and the French themselves. We witnessed an example of this in Nice with asylum seekers for whom we show solidarity, because some of us have been or are in their situation.
To let this go on is to endure tomorrow. IT IS URGENT TO ACT!
Let’s meet next December 8th at 2 PM in front of the UD CGT for a bus departure.
Together we are attacked, together we can fend off attacks on pensions, health, and all our rights.

– Letter from Cรฉcile Dumas, Deputy Federal Secretary

Mr. Prefect:
We have just learned of the decision of the Tribunal of Nice regarding the occupation of the building on Rue George Clรฉmenceau.
The tribunal orders the eviction of about a hundred asylum seekers, including more than 40 children!
After this decision, how can one not be outraged by the attitude of Mr. Lamy, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, and Messrs. Estrosi and Ciotti, who, after the death of a โ€œHomelessโ€ person in Nice, demand constant vigilance from organizations and the Social SAMU while simultaneously putting 115 people on the street in the coming days during the winter truce.
If there is a guilty party in this case, it is the State! Guilty of failing to meet its duty to house asylum seekers.
We are in a department where UMP officials and public institutions prefer to see vacant buildings rather than people housed!
During this winter period, the Communists fully support the men, women, and children in search of a place to live with dignity.

Letter from Jacques Victor, General Councilor

Mr. Prefect:
The decision taken yesterday by the Tribunal dโ€™Instance of Nice concerning families occupying an uninhabited building on Avenue Georges Clรฉmenceau, owned by the CHU, only underlines what I had already brought to your attention during your appearance before the Departmental Assembly: Namely that procedural fervor and judicial retribution cannot be considered responses worthy of the values of the Republic and the history of our country.
Your eagerness to execute the present decree seems at the very least paradoxical, while you appear to turn a deaf ear to all those of the Administrative Tribunal granting the expectations of asylum seekers. It is the non-compliance with their rights, recognized by conventions signed by France, that led these families to seek a temporary housing solution to avoid enduring the harshness of winter. If there is indeed an urgency, it is to offer the families, including many children, sustainable solutions that allow them to await the examination of their files calmly. Therefore, a dialogue should be initiated with the associations and citizens who support them and honor our country’s asylum traditions, rather than persisting in stigmatizing and criminalizing them.
Rushing the execution of this decision, throwing families with children out onto the street as winter approaches, would certainly pose a clear risk of public disorder but would also testify to what I dare say is an unworthy treatment of this case.
It is never too late for common sense and humanity to prevail, which is why I ask you, on behalf of the elected officials of our group and with all solemnity, to suspend any eviction by force until hosting solutions are found for these families.
I hold onto this hope and awaiting your response, please accept, Mr. Prefect, my most distinguished regards.
