It was an easy prediction: the tragic events in Paris have become part of the regional election debate.
Following Christophe Castaner’s proposal for mandatory civic service, Christian Estrosi takes it a step further by announcing a regional security fund of 250 million euros*.
“Security is not a regional responsibility,” echoes Sophie Camard, head of the “Co-operative Region” list.
“Furthermore, this sum represents half of the Region’s annual investment budget, or almost the entire annual budget for regional trains, or for training or for high schools (approximately 300 million euros each), or even the whole of the Region’s personnel expenses,” continues the ecologist leader, calling for calm in the debate.
Her conclusion is cutting: “Mr. Estrosi mainly shows that he is in a complete panic over the current situation and that he cannot oversee the Region’s presidency with calm and reason.”
