“Rather than hunting rats, the Mayor should be hunting for good ideas!”
M. Salles, what would your diagnosis be if you were the “Doctor” of the City of Nice?
If I were the “doctor” of the city of Nice, I would try to make a truthful diagnosis. It’s not about breaking the thermometer to reduce the fever. Likewise, it is useless to spread false news by saying “Nice, a city in motion” while the city of Nice is stalled and everyone realizes it. That’s why I believe it is useful to establish this sincere diagnosis by analyzing our city’s strengths and weaknesses and administering the dosage that suits it, i.e., the means for its future.
EMPLOYMENT:
The employment basin in Nice is not at its best, what is your opinion on this subject?
The employment basin is not in the best shape. And yet Nice’s assets should fully contribute to giving it the dynamism it deserves. But there are several reasons for this. First of all, housing issues must be at the forefront of employment barriers. Indeed, Nice lacks housing for workers. Saying that OPAM is not fulfilling its mission is an understatement. It’s worse than that! It is true that there are land issues because here the land is rare and expensive. But precisely, because of these difficulties, the public authority should intervene with voluntarism. Unfortunately, this is not the case. As a result, companies cannot settle in Nice and therefore create jobs. When some do settle, they are often forced to leave because their employees cannot find housing. To address these issues, it would be necessary to create housing for workers in Nice but also on the outskirts in the middle country, on the condition that transport and notably public transport is improved. However, the first tram line will remain focused on Nice and will not serve our suburbs, which is a mistake.
What measures would you apply to improve this?
To facilitate employment, especially for young couples, a policy directed towards early childhood must be developed. Unfortunately, Nice lacks childcare facilities, and this is a major handicap for families.
It should also be noted the lack of our city’s image. Today, despite massive communication efforts by the municipality that addresses only the people of Niceโwho themselves are not convincedโNice imposes no positive image beyond its territorial limits. This does not make it attractive, which is a major handicap. The municipality would be better off shelving the Couรฉ method and aiming for effectiveness. But this requires the truthful diagnosis that the Town Hall refuses to make. It must be said that this diagnosis would undoubtedly penalize 10 years of consecutive failures.
Your opinion on Nice’s Cyber Employment?
Concerning cyber-employment, I do not want to give an opinion. I simply want to underline that there are certainly too many structures dealing with employment where there should be a greater rationalization. I think job seekers should be able to turn to a single office that would guide them in their procedures and save them from the current obstacle course that often ends with rejections.
