Speaking at the rostrum of the Council of Europe, Rudy Salles emphasized the Tunisian people’s aspiration for democracy.
He welcomed the upcoming first free and democratic elections in this country on October 24th, which will establish a Constituent Assembly tasked with creating new institutions for the country.
He is also pleased that Tunisians have decided on full gender parity in future institutions, highlighting the prominent role of women in Tunisian society, the only Muslim country granting such an advanced status to women.
However, Rudy Salles notes that immigration is a consequence of the significant social issues affecting Tunisia.
Moreover, since the beginning of the revolution, the tourism industry has collapsed in a very concerning manner.
This is why, during his speech, the Deputy from Alpes Maritimes called for strong European support to enhance investments directed towards this country.
For Rudy Salles, this is the best way to combat illegal immigration to France and Europe, which is fueled by these social difficulties.
