On the program for this evening is Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, a work created in Paris in 1864.
The composer had come out of retirement, which he had decided to take thirty-four years prior, to respond positively to a commission from a friend.
It was an opportunity to provide posterity with a final masterpiece with this Petite messe solennelle which, under the baton of Giulio Magnanini, will be performed in its version for a large orchestra.
