Saint Nicholas Cathedral: Supporters of ACOR remain steadfast

Expulsion of the clergy from the Saint-Nicolas Cathedral in Nice: hearing postponed to Thursday, October 27 at 2 p.m. The gamble of those opposing the enforcement of the request by the Russian Federation to be reinstated in its right as a legitimate owner (as established by the judgments of the Nice Regional Court and the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal) seems devoid of hope, yet this does not diminish the opponents’ desire to fight and the energy that comes with it. We report on it for you.

eglise_russe-2.jpg Mobilization: Bet succeeded!!

Despite extremely short mobilization times and weather that didnโ€™t encourage putting a demonstrator outside, the courtroom of the Nice courthouse was packed this morning during the hearing of the injunction opposing the powerful Russian Federation and the Russian Orthodox Religious Association (ACOR).

Following the request of the lawyer representing the clergy threatened with being expelled from their own church, the President of the Court adjourned the case to Thursday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m.

Our mobilization must not weaken; it must amplify!!!

Through our presence, we demonstrated the attachment of an entire neighborhood and beyond, of an entire city, to one of the jewels of Niceโ€™s heritage.

We thus expressed our gratitude to the members of ACOR for the 88 years spent maintaining and safeguarding the Saint-Nicolas Cathedral located on Tzarรฉwitch Boulevard.
Who can imagine the state this church would be in if this association hadnโ€™t worked daily?

There is no shortage of examples in Nice of buildings abandoned over the years: not to mention the pure and simple destruction of the Jetรฉe-Promenade in 1944 or Ruhl in 1979. Let us remember Nice sites renovated after years of decay, such as the Palais de la Mรฉditerranรฉe, the Palais de lโ€™Agriculture on the Promenade des Anglais, Place Pierre Gautier in old Niceโ€ฆ

We were keen to be alongside our friends from ACOR who, for dozens of years, have participated in the life of our neighborhood, allowing, by making available the spaces adjacent to the Cathedral, lawns, forecourtsโ€ฆ, the celebration of neighborsโ€™ day or music day, for example; we have always been able to count on them.

Today, through their involvement in the life of the neighborhood, they are friends, members of our family, neighbors, and now churchmen whom the Russian Federation wishes to judicially expel from a place that must remain a sanctuary of peace, serenity, life, brotherhood, and testimony of our shared past and present history.
