In Nice, the summer sales end on Saturday, August 8. Merchants, unsatisfied with their revenues during the sales period, have decided to implement “floating sales” or even better, major clearances. Outside the five official weeks of sales in summer and winter, each merchant will be allowed to choose two additional weeks of sales.
All the merchants on Rue Longchamp have brought out large quantities of clothing, arranging them on stands in front of their shops. But for what reason? The purpose is to sell off all the stock from previous collections at low prices, with some even daring to offer unique prices ranging from 5 to 70 euros for each clothing lot! These are exceptional prices, especially since Rue Longchamp is known for its luxury boutiques. Indeed, to find something to your liking at these stands, you will need patience and a keen sense of observation. To attract the attention of potential buyers, some stores have even decorated with multicolored garlands. Unfortunately, the clearance on Rue Longchamp ended Wednesday evening. But don’t worry, the new law for economic modernization allows all merchants to display price reductions for clearances throughout the year.
It’s time for good deals! Sales are a major economic factor for merchants, especially in the current context where purchasing power continues to decline. But in the summer, merchants on the French Riviera rather count on the purchasing power of tourists on vacation to sell their items. A few days before the end of the sales, store windows display discounts of up to -70%, with catchy slogans such as, “Buy a pair of jeans, get the second for 1 euro.”
But where are the good deals? With a turnover of 20 billion euros in France in 2008, online sales could reach 30 billion in 2010. The success of these online shops could hurt traditional merchants. But with the growth of e-commerce, it’s better to switch to the internet for sales, it’s more convenient and you won’t miss opportunities to make good deals.
