Outraged by the sale of the show horse she was promised, Gracieuse, a gifted rider, quits the stable where she worked.
She starts over from scratch by accepting a job as a stable girl at the dressage stud farm adjacent to her father’s farm. The owner, Joséphine de Silène, runs it with an iron fist, exploiting the international reputation of a German trainer, Franz Mann, a cynical and worn-out former champion whose expertise – and gaze! – are sought after by wealthy riders worldwide.
This microcosm of power and money does not welcome Gracieuse, who has nothing but her talent, strong will, and above all, her relentless drive to succeed.
