Formed since November 21, 2007, the steering committee for the construction of this future high school is composed of representatives notably from the host municipality and surrounding communes, the National Education, the colleges and high schools of the area, parents of students, and concerned associations and organizations, under the responsibility of Patrick Allemand, 1st Vice-President of the Regional Council.
On June 4th, the model of the future high school was unveiled to them by architects José Morales and Rémy Marcario. It will be located in the Fontanil district: a site with a constructed landscape, a territory of rugged valleys, sculpted by water.
Project Objective:
The high school must blend into the landscape.
Achieved Architectural Objective:
The steering committee discovered a high school completely integrated into the valley and aligned with the continuity of surrounding village strips. It asserts its elevated position for protection against floods and noise from the quarry and railway. The high school resembles a building from the high valley with a mineral base and a main structure in wood. It is a layered and dynamic building, stretched and dense, evoking diverse imaginaries from fortified, agricultural, or village architectures. Thus, this establishment confirms its intention to establish a link with the environment.
Presentation of the high school:
The land of the future high school is composed of several plots, mostly belonging to the Goscinny family. The Goscinny house, a heritage of Drap, will house the administration on the ground floor and the teachers’ premises upstairs. The activity room is tucked under the entrance, ensuring autonomous operation.
The educational facilities are distributed over two levels with protected walkways wrapping around a planted patio. To the east, the half-board, an autonomous block anchored in the ground, shields the courtyard from east winds.
Features of the high school:
The future high school of Drap is a multidisciplinary school with a capacity to accommodate nearly 900 students, offering education with a theater option.
In addition to the classes of sophomore, junior, and senior years, a section for higher technicians is planned.
The model of the future Drap high school has won over the steering committee. The building permit will be submitted before the end of the year, and the laying of the foundation stone is scheduled for the second quarter of 2009. Future students from the Paillon valley will inaugurate their new school at the start of the 2011 academic year.
