A shooting broke out Friday, October 3rd in the evening in the Moulins neighborhood, west of Nice. Two people died and five others were wounded. The area is cordoned off and an investigation has been opened.
Gunfire was heard shortly after 9:30 p.m. According to the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, two people lost their lives. Two others are seriously wounded and three are less seriously injured. One of them went to the emergency room at Pasteur 2 hospital on their own.
Nine fire and rescue vehicles and numerous police units were mobilized. The perimeter was secured quickly. Neighborhood residents say they saw a man get out of a car before opening fire with an automatic weapon.
Prefect Laurent Hottiaux went to the scene in the evening. He also praised the work of security and rescue forces.
On the X network, Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, spoke of an « incursion linked to drug trafficking » that allegedly resulted in « automatic weapon fire. » He describes a « tense and confused situation. »
The Interior Minister decided to send additional reinforcements starting Saturday, October 4th. They will remain in the neighborhood « as long as necessary » to ensure a return to calm.
An investigation is underway to establish the precise circumstances of this shooting. The Moulins neighborhood remains cordoned off Friday evening.
