Snowboarding and torball: ANICES won medals in succession in January

In mid-January and early February, ANICES teams competed in succession in snowboarding and torball. Medals were won in European Cup and World Cup competitions. The men’s and women’s torball teams confirmed their momentum during the first phase of the French championships.

In mid-January, ANICES claimed several podiums. The athletes returned from a competition weekend with numerous medals.

Four snowboarders were competing in Kühtai, Austria, for the European Cup and World Cup Bank Slalom. Valentin Fourcadier, Lucas Liens, Maxime Clarkin and Maxime Montaggioni competed over two intense days.

On Saturday, January 17, in the European Cup, Valentin Fourcadier finished second and won the silver medal. Lucas Liens took fifth place. Maxime Clarkin also finished fifth. In the World Cup, Maxime Montaggioni finished fourth.

On Sunday, January 18, the delegation confirmed the previous day’s results. In the European Cup, Valentin Fourcadier won gold. Maxime Clarkin also finished first and added a second gold medal. Lucas Liens took seventh place. In the World Cup, Maxime Montaggioni won bronze with a third-place finish.

These results launched the club’s sporting year. Attention then turned to torball.

A busy January for Nice torball

While the snowboarders were in Austria, four Eagles participated in an international torball tournament in Laval. Cédric, Bernard, Yacine and Soulaymane faced seven teams from across Europe.

The Nice team, composed of two Division 1 players and two Division 2 players, played successive matches. The record showed only one loss and one draw. The Nice players beat Laval 3-2, Mons 5-3, Basel 1-0, Clermont 8-0 and Zurich 5-2. A 1-1 draw was conceded against Mol.

Qualified for the semi-finals, the team beat Mol 1-0. In the final, Basel prevailed 6-3. Yacine scored 11 goals. Cédric scored 10. Soulaymane added 6 goals.

On January 31, Nice hosted the first phase of the Men’s Division 2 French Championship at the Albert Malatesta sports complex. More than 150 spectators attended the matches.

The teams arrived the day before and were accommodated at the Monsigny hotel. A meal was shared at the partner restaurant Chez Garpo. On Saturday morning, volunteers accompanied the delegations to the gymnasium. After the opening speech by president Sébastien Filippini, the matches began at 8:30 a.m.

Nice Reserves beat Clermont-Ferrand 5-2. Besançon drew 4-4. Reims was dominated 4-1. Bien Hêtre was beaten 9-0. A 0-0 draw was recorded against Aubervilliers. Sarcelles was beaten 10-0.

The first-phase standings placed Nice Reserves at the top with 10 points and a goal difference of +25, ahead of Clermont-Ferrand and Aubervilliers. The Nice defense conceded seven goals in six matches. Cédric scored 14 goals. Mika scored nine. Sébastien, Yacine and Philippe each added three goals.

The return matches were scheduled for May 23 in Aubervilliers.

A week later, the women’s team from ANICES traveled to Clermont-Ferrand for the first phase of the Women’s French Championship. Sandrine, Kamélya and Clarisse competed, accompanied by coach Sébastien. Mikaël and Thibaud provided the refereeing.

The day began with a 17-9 victory over Rezé. Clermont-Ferrand then won a match 12-6. Three victories followed: 13-9 against Reims, 14-7 against Reims and 8-5 against Clermont-Ferrand. A 11-10 loss to Rezé concluded the day.

The standings placed the Nice team in second position with the silver medal. The team scored 68 goals, the best offense of the competition. Sandrine finished as the top scorer with 34 goals, tied with Magalie from Clermont-Ferrand. Clarisse took third place among scorers with 31 goals. Kamélya scored three goals in her first participation.

These results confirmed the momentum established since the beginning of the year. Snowboarding and torball allowed ANICES to establish itself at the top of national and international rankings from the first competitions.
