Solidarity with the Ukrainian people from Alpes-Maritimes Fraternity

“Solidarity is the other name for fraternity,” claims this association which brings together representatives of various religious movements in the Côte d’Azur region and strives for everyone to express their faith in full personal freedom.

In this difficult moment, it is important for a voice of peace to rise up in the hope that the sound of weapons may soon be silenced.

“On the European continent, peace seemed like it should prevail. And yet, war is once again at our doorstep.

We are all gripped by deep and legitimate worry and dismay. But at the same time, an extraordinary surge of solidarity is manifesting.

We admire and salute the initiatives of everyone: ordinary citizens, associations, and public authorities, for the welcome and support offered to Ukrainian refugees and the besieged, bombarded, and resistant populations.

The solidarity of actions is essential. It is also one of the heart and mind. Faced with the tragedy and misfortune experienced by other human beings, our true humanity is seized with compassion. Compassion knows no boundaries. It turns to all victims and does not hold an entire people responsible for the decisions of their leaders.

For believers, solidarity must also be spiritual. Everywhere, regardless of faith, both internationally and locally, fervent prayers have risen for those suffering from the war, for the world leaders, and for peace. We believe that evil never wins!

No matter the outcome of this war—which we hope will be the quickest possible—a new international situation will emerge. The present imbalances may be exacerbated between the north and south, east and west, potential factors for future conflicts and migrations. The looming food crisis, for example, will severely hit the poorest countries. The “crisis solidarity” that we are experiencing calls for greater solidarity, a solidarity among peoples, nations, and continents.”
