As part of the progress of the “360 communities” project, Sophie Cluzel, responsible for individuals with disabilities, was welcomed in Nice at the “ROSSETTI” health center for the disabled to exchange ideas.
This Friday, January 16, it is 2:45 PM at the “HANDICONSULT” health center, located in La Madeleine, in the heights of Nice. Escorted by a convoy of motorcycle police officers, the guest of the day finally makes an appearance. Sophie Cluzel, Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, responsible for individuals with disabilities, arrives with the mayor of the city of Nice, Christian Estrosi. After a morning in the Roya valley alongside local residents and elected officials, Sophie Cluzel wraps up her day in the Alpes-Maritimes with a visit to the center and a general discussion with key players such as staff members and associations like Pupille de l’Enseignement Public (PEP 06).
After a presentation of the center by Emile Serna, the guided tour can finally begin. To adhere to Covid-19 restriction measures and to avoid disturbing the disabled children, we follow the tour led by healthcare staff through a screen. Sophie Cluzel’s presence is linked to two main reasons: the “360 community” and the multipurpose health center for the disabled. Still in the company of Christian Estrosi, the state representative discovers the modern tools used by the staff. Involved and interested, she attends the daily exercises of disabled children. This visit is also an opportunity for her to interact with the children. Very attentive, the Secretary of State was able to see all the technological equipment, such as a vibrating suit intended for paraplegics. As night quietly falls, the participants gather in the multipurpose room to discuss the “360 communities.”
An Animated Debate to Move Forward Quickly
Around the table, a diversity of stakeholders concerned with the project and ready to work together. Doctors, Romain Alexandre from the Regional Health Agency, elected officials, members of disabled associations, the mayor of Nice, and of course Sophie Cluzel. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, took advantage of the beginning of the meeting to show his support for this project orchestrated by Sophie Cluzel: “We will accompany you in your “360 community” initiative. Thank you for embodying what is most beautiful in public life for those who need it the most.”
After this emotional moment experienced at the center, the floor is given to the Secretary of State. Initial thanks followed by objectives to be set: “Cooperation is our key word to succeed,” she indicates to the attentive ears around the table. Several issues were discussed during this debate, always with the aim of improving the lives of people with reduced mobility. Concrete cases of patients in difficulty due to the health crisis, 40% of disabled individuals without a primary care doctor, and adaptive sports that need to be developed—a significant amount of work indeed. “We need to utilize adapted sports so that children are not left on the sidelines. Sport is a factor for integration,” adds Sophie Cluzel. A debate interrupted by the curfew hour (6 PM). Different stakeholders but a common goal: to move forward hand in hand.
