The media library of Sospel is organizing a photographic exhibition by Mathieu Vernerey until July 31, which is a continuation of the book published in 2012—the result of a collaboration between photographer Mathieu Vernerey, writer Jean-Olivier Majastre, and geologist Michel Corsini.

Unpublished photos are added to images from this book to extend the quest of the ancient ocean from which the Alps were born and to recall the maritime fate of the Southern Alps.

From Mont Viso, forged in the oceanic crust, to the Mediterranean, heir of the vanished ocean, the sea’s swell resonates up to the highest peaks.

Wandering souls of the ocean, the clouds reshape in the sky the sea that brought them into being, plunging the mountains into abyssal atmospheres. An instant of eternity as disturbing as it is ephemeral, where the mirage of the sea emerges in the heart of the mountains and the “oceanic Alps” archipelago is born from the foam.

From the promontory of Mercantour overlooking the Mediterranean, Matthieu Vernerey, photographer, invites you to continue with him this astonishing Alpine odyssey, between sky, sea, and mountains.
