Sport: Mixed weekend for Azurean clubs

Latest News

Not a great weekend for the Azurean stables engaged in various national competitions.

HOCKEY

It’s time to sound the alarm for the Nice hockey players: the Eagles can no longer find their rhythm and are accumulating defeat after defeat (last Friday in Strasbourg). They are 11th out of 12 in the standings at mid-season (6 wins, 12 losses) after a promising start to the season.

The schedule will require them to travel again to Alsace this Tuesday, before returning to their Jean-Bouin rink next Friday to face Epinal.

RUGBY

The Nice rugby players were not celebrating either and had to be content with the defensive bonus point against Châteaurenard (24-28). The result may not be a disappointment given the opponent’s strength, but the Nice team will have to work hard to recover the points from the two home defeats if they want to qualify for the finals. So, every opportunity is worth taking!
Currently, with 4 wins and 4 losses, they are in 5th place, 2 points away from the qualifying spot.

BASKETBALL

The Nice female basketball players can blame themselves for missing out on a possible victory against an ambitious Basket Landes team. Away. It took overtime for the Niss’Angels to be defeated (71-66). With 3 wins and 5 losses, they are in 9th position out of 12 before hosting Lyon next Saturday at Leyrit.

VOLLEYBALL

After the tears, there is finally a reason to smile: Mladen Kasic’s volleyball players, on an upward trend after a home defeat against Paris in the first match of the championship, managed their trip to the Atlantic Coast well.

A 3-1 victory against Nantes-Rézé and a nice climb in the standings: 8th place (3 wins, 3 losses). Next Friday, Ajaccio will come to Palmeira for a match that will have to separate the two teams with the same ranking.
