During an official ceremony held at the Villa Massรฉna yesterday late afternoon, 11 sports leaders received the Youth and Sports medal from the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
They include Charly Bรฉrard, former cyclist; Christophe Garin, Vice-President in charge of the Olympic Academy of the Alpes-Maritimes Sport; Daniel Olivieri, president of the Entente des sociรฉtรฉs niรงoises de pรฉtanque et Jeu Provenรงal (gold medal) and Pierre Albuixech, former general director of the Lawn Tennis Club; Vito Cristina, president of the Entente des clubs niรงois of the FFF; Philippe Descatoire, president of the National Union of Parachutists, section 06; Sรฉbastien Filippini, founding president of the ANICES association; Jean-Jacques Managuerra, president of the ASBPT; Florent Roasio, treasurer of the association Rรฉveil Sportif Saint-Isidore Foot; Marie-Thรฉrรจse Robecchi, president of Cram Judo; Brigitte Sarfati, president of the association LโEnvol.
In his speech, Christian Estrosi aimed to justify this award: “Volunteers, educators, leadersโฆ without them, sports associations could not function or even exist. They are the foundation of the sports movement in our city. Rewarding them gives meaning to their actions and the passion they share every day.”
The mayor of Nice highlighted the importance and impact of associative and sports activities for young people: “Through these medals, I want to recognize the commitment of the 3,500 volunteers who work every day in Nice to keep the clubs alive and give our youth the means to build themselves in the most beautiful way.”
