More than 10 million euros will be immediately released by the State to restore the railway line between Breil-sur-Roya and Tende (Alpes-Maritimes) damaged by storm Alex in October, the Ministry of Ecological Transition, responsible for transport, announced this Monday.

The cost of the priority work to reopen the railway line between Breil-sur-Roya and Tende has been estimated at 20 million euros, the statement specifies. This work will be funded with 10.5 million euros from the State, provided as part of the recovery plan, with 7.5 million euros from the Sud region, and with two million euros from the Alpes-Maritimes department.

This operation will allow traffic to be restored from Breil-sur-Roya to the Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende station before the end of January 2021, the ministry adds.

“Restoring this lifeline for all residents of the valley is an absolute priority, as the roads have suffered considerable damage that will require longer repairs,โ€ emphasized Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Minister Delegate for Transport, as quoted in the statement.

The ministry reminds that the opening up of the valley’s municipalities currently depends mainly on the railway network via the Nice-Breil and Coni-Ventimiglia lines.

For the moment, the afflicted villages are still waiting for the amount of aid promised by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to the department.
