Last October, the National Sports Museum launched, for the first time in its history, a crowdfunding campaign aimed at acquiring a magnificent painting by the Mexican artist รngel Zรกrraga, “The Young Footballer,” an oil on canvas created in 1927 during a stay in Paris.
The museum considered this painting essential for its heritage collections because it is an expression of the “Zรกrraga style”: both classical with its Cubist influence and avant-garde in its choice of models.
The objective of this initiative was twofold: on one hand, to raise the necessary funds to purchase the artwork (โฌ8,000 of the โฌ20,000 requested, with the remaining amount funded by the museum itself), and on the other hand, to engage and raise awareness among the public about its missions of enriching and conserving heritage collections.
To help finance this project, the National Sports Museum offered numerous exclusive rewards as well as the possibility for supporters to receive tax deductions.
Thanks to about thirty contributions ranging from โฌ5 to โฌ5,000, coming from individuals, associations, and businesses, this goal has been reached and the painting will soon be displayed within the permanent exhibition.
