Changing the name of the region? The debate is heating up, and now it is the turn of the former Vice-President Patrick Allemand to share his opinion.

Michel Vauzelle had considered it but gave up after organizing a large public consultation that did not resolve the issue. All attempts had failed because it divided the territory, sometimes leaving the people from Provence, sometimes others, dissatisfied.

In this sense, everyone can identify with “Rรฉgion Sud,” which is quite clever.

PACA is an acronym that pleases no one, but the difficulty is that our region is a juxtaposition of three global brands: Provence, the Alps, and the Cรดte dโ€™Azur.

These three brands are known worldwide, they resonate with people, whereas “Rรฉgion Sud” does not. Saying that “the South” is enough to represent the sun is insufficient because PACA is more than just the sun and the sea; it also includes a landscape, historical, cultural, and culinary heritage.

Finally, we do not have a monopoly on the south of France, which could cause some issues with our neighbors in Languedoc.

With Michel Vauzelle, the region had distanced itself from its logo resembling a supermarket, and had risen to the level of its history with its recognizable coat of arms. With Muselier, itโ€™s a relapse because “the south” is a direction, not a region rich with 2,600 years of history.
