The Sustainable Development Week, organized annually by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy, takes place from April 1st to 7th throughout France around the theme “Consume Differently”.
On this occasion, the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis is getting involved and various events are organized at IMREDD โ the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment, and Sustainable Development โ as well as on the Carlone campus.
Sustainable development, a priority theme for UNICE
The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis has implemented in recent years a Green Plan in favor of sustainable development aiming to make the University a more responsible institution by reducing its environmental impact, creating favorable social conditions for its staff and students while being economically viable.
Several actions have been put in place since 2009:
โข Adherence to the charter for an Alliance of French Universities in favor of sustainable development,
โข Publication of a guide to best practices in this area (version 2 in progress),
โข Integration of sustainable development (ranging from a single module to an entire program) into around fifty courses,
โข Inclusion of criteria related to UNICEโs social responsibility in tenders funded by Seed Scientific Credits (CSI),
โข Energy audit of buildings and implementation of an asset management software participating in the correlated management of real estate, maintenance, and energy,
โข Provision of multi-waste collection stations and waste sorting bins,
โข Integration of criteria respecting the principles of sustainable development in public procurement (cleaning, maintenance products, digital copiers, etc.),
โข Organization by the health and safety service of a road safety day for UNICE students and staff and its partners.
On the occasion of the national sustainable development week 2014, the Green Plan Mission will survey UNICE students and staff about their commuting practices, the first step of the travel plan currently being developed.
