The Shogun Nice Taekwondo seems to have found its cruising speed. Just two years after its establishment, the club already has nearly 50 licensed members. It’s a good start for a sports association that does not intend to stop there.
Thanks to a very dynamic team of leaders, the section continues its development with the belief that Taekwondo is much more than just a sport or martial art. “Through its values of respect, perseverance, solidarity, humility, and ambition,” it becomes for those who practice it, according to its founder Gregory Rosello, a “tremendous tool capable of helping human beings to face all the difficulties they may encounter in their lives.”
Since its inception in 2007, SNT has been working for the democratization of this sport by positioning itself as a community-based, friendly club accessible to the widest audience. The work done with young people has finally been rewarded by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Life with the acquisition of the “Agrément Sport,” a label that recognizes a sports association by the State and the sports world. Thanks to a partnership with the City of Nice, SNT currently operates in two training rooms (Dojangs), one in Old Nice and the other in the Port district, at the Terra Amata Gymnasium for children and teenagers aged 5 to 18, as well as for adults with traditional Taekwondo and Self-Defense.
In its first year, the Club co-organized with the Nice Institute of Sports, the Eighth Nice City Combat Sports Cup (Taekwondo, Full Contact, Judo) which was very successful with 300 children participating, including 100 Taekwondoists. “School Taekwondo and its practice for everyone are priorities of the club,” explains Gregory Rosello, director and state-certified trainer. “Thanks to this approval issued by the Ministry, we can work in schools during school hours.” Additionally, with the aid of the Regional and Departmental Directorate of Youth and Sports, SNT allows over 500 schoolchildren of the Azur city to be introduced to this discipline for free. The club thus participates in various programs such as the Educational Support Contracts (CAE) by offering twice-weekly Taekwondo initiation sessions targeted at children aged 5 to 12 from various schools in the city, during the lunch break (11:30 am – 1:30 pm). Throughout all school holidays, and in partnership with the Youth Department of the City of Nice and the Municipal Sports Action, SNT also works with children and teenagers in local neighborhood facilities and leisure centers.
The club’s next goals are to reach 100 licensed members by next season by creating a third section and to successfully participate in upcoming events on the sports calendar.
