Mixed grass season exit, with a good run in Berlin and simply a 2nd round at Wimbledon, Nice native Diane Parry competed this week in the Prague 250 tournament.
60th in the WTA rankings (and still France’s top player), Diane Parry entered the Prague WTA 250 as number 7 seed. In the first round this Tuesday, the Nice native was therefore heavily favored against her opponent of the day, Japanese player Mai Hontama, ranked 203rd in the world, who came through qualifying. And yet, delivering a performance well below her standards, Diane Parry was soundly beaten in 1 hour 15 minutes in two sets.
With two breaks conceded in the first set, Diane Parry remained consistent and hung on, but she still lost this first set 6-4.
In the second set, the French player completely collapsed. She scored only ten points in total and lost heavily 6-0.
The grass to hard court transition seems to have gotten the better of the Nice native, not helped at all by her serve, with less than 50% of points won on her serve. Final score: (6-4/6-0) in 1 hour 15 minutes.
The only French player still in contention in Prague, Océane Dodin, ranked 362nd in the world, will play her 2nd round Wednesday against Czech player Dominika Salkova, ranked 127th in the WTA.
Before tackling the two major events of August – the WTA 1000s in Canada and Cincinnati – Diane Parry could compete next week in the Washington tournament.
