This Thursday, starting at 1:30 PM, the first spelling challenge will take place in the Alpes-Maritimes Department. In the Escoffier Hall in Villeneuve-Loubet, 300 middle school students will compete with their digital tablets in the presence of Charles Anges Ginésy, President of the Department.
The 6th-grade students from the middle schools of the Alpes-Maritimes (a total of 300 students) are preparing for the first edition of the major joint event: “the spelling challenge.” For an afternoon, they will take on this challenge prepared during the school year. Indeed, spelling practices have been implemented in French courses to enhance spelling by working on it differently (negotiated dictation, daily dictation, blackened dictation, writings, rewritings…). The volunteering students will participate in pairs in this major inter-school challenge, showcasing their learning. An award ceremony will be held to reward them.
This initiative aims to instill better spelling mastery in students and also allows:
- To support students’ learning
- To prevent illiteracy
- To train teachers in language study and the use of digital tools
- To create a dynamic group of teachers from different schools.
The tablets were provided to the students by the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council. The classes could prepare for the event, as well as use these connected devices in other subjects.
