Certainly!
The 7th In&Out Meetings, the gay and lesbian film festival of Nice & Cannes, will take place from April 30 to May 9, 2015. And we are making it clear this year, “In&Out is COMING OUT”.
The choice of this theme is both a nod and a good opportunity to address issues that are close to our hearts. There is, of course, the obvious: how does cinema portray this crucial moment when one publicly accepts their homosexuality?
But it is possible to broaden the perspective. How can a gay and lesbian film festival embrace its “particular” theme without contradiction while remaining open to the largest audience?
Or, how can the idea of “Gay and Lesbian Cultures” assert itself without fearing to close off access to universality for the artists and works it comprises?
In this regard, In&Out— which is always asked to be “more open” — is literally coming out by providing a queer perspective on the themes it addresses, reaffirming its desire to offer visibility for LGBT cultures in all their diversity, including controversial aspects like pornography.
Other themes will also enrich a program featuring 33 feature films and 3 short film sessions. Echoing 2014, homophobia remains — unfortunately — very present in the work of many filmmakers, many of whom look to Eastern Europe. Canada and Italy are also highlighted with a selection of the best recent national productions, Quebec short films, or a theatrical adaptation of the “cult” series Le Coeur a ses raisons.
Les Ouvreurs will welcome, as usual, many artists for the occasion: directors Rémi LANGE for the full collection of his feature films (Le Chanteur, Omelette, Les yeux brouillés), DAVID LAMBERT for Je suis à toi, VINCENT DIEUTRE for Viaggio nel dopo-storia, JONATHAN TAIEB for Stand, STEPHANE GERARD for Rien n’oblige à répéter l’histoire, VINCENT BOUJON for Vivant!, ANTONY HICKLING for One Deep Breath, VERONIQUE AUBOUY for Je suis AnneMarie Schwarzenbach, and also TOM DE PEKIN for the first exhibition of his works in Nice.
For the first time this year, the festival will feature an official competition and awards, the “Esperluettes”, to honor the best films in our selection.
The jury will be composed of cinema professionals and queer artists: director Emilie JOUVET; Xavier HERAUD, journalist at Yagg; Didier ROTH-BETTONI, author of Homosexuality in Cinema among others, and Dana Osi, vice-president of the LGBT Center Côte d’Azur.
For some, the number 7 is a sign of luck and truth. What wonderful prospects for this new edition!
