When one reaches the venerable age of 100, one should rather live on memories. But in Nice… the Victorine, the famous film studios, are set to find a second life!

Taken over in management since 2018, while awaiting an executive project that a committee of specialists is currently working on to make recommendations, which should create the conditions for the famous studios to regain their youth. Following the Carnival, which referenced the 7th Art, the centenary of the Victorine is the inspirational theme for the festive cultural year in Nice.

A vast program, as it used to be said, that Christian Estrosi, in the presence of the Nice cultural community, presented the program for “Nice 2019: The Odyssey of Cinema” and the Biennale des Arts 2019, in the presence of Jean-Jacques Aillagon, President of the Nice World Heritage Mission, General Commissioner of the Biennale des Arts 2019.

For the Mayor of Nice, “it is naturally, in partnership with the French Cinematheque and under the sponsorship of its President, Costa-Gavras, that the hundredth anniversary of the Victorine Studios is celebrated with ‘Nice 2019 – The Odyssey of Cinema’.”

Through the “Victorine Retrospective-Festival,” co-produced with the French Cinematheque in Paris as well as in Nice, nearly 60 masterpieces will be scheduled in the coming weeks.

The fourth edition of the Biennale des Arts de Nice, held under the general commissioner Jean-Jacques Aillagon, will present 7 exhibitions and reveal the richness of the cinematic history of the Azur capital and the multiple influences between visual arts and the 7th Art.

At the end of September, meet at the Victorine studios for 3 days to discover “Behind the Scenes” and the magic of film making during the open house days. This grand popular celebration will notably honor, through two ephemeral exhibitions co-produced by the city and the French Cinematheque, two cinema masterpieces: Children of Paradise and Day for Night.

The people of Nice of all ages, and especially the young, will be able to embrace this artistic heritage, which is also theirs, thanks to “Make Your Cinema” in all the schools and “The Victorine and Me,” within the libraries.

There is great anticipation for the realization of such a rich program of events.

Jean-Jacques Aillagon’s words summarize it: “The Victorine was a magnificent past, it’s a magnificent story, and it will have a magnificent future.”
