Return to competition today for the Nice native Diane Parry at the WTA 250 in Rouen. Unfortunately, the French player will not compete in the round of 16, defeated by the number 1 seed Marta Kostyuk.
Difficult return to competition for Diane Parry against a very solid world top 30 player
Injured a few weeks ago, Diane Parry had to miss the international week of the Billie Jean King Cup with the French team. To get back on track, the Nice native participated in the WTA 250 in Rouen, a tournament for which she received a wild card. Unfortunately, the French player, now ranked 100th in the WTA, faced a very challenging first round. Up against the number 1 seed Marta Kostyuk, Diane Parry was defeated in straight sets.
The first set was swift, with Diane Parry managing to create some opportunities for breaks, but she ultimately lost her serve twice and fell 6-1 in just over 30 minutes. It was a difficult set for the Nice native, as she won only 36% of points on her serve and the same percentage on the return. She was overpowered by a well-prepared Marta Kostyuk, who pushed the French player back with heavy, hard-to-control shots.Â
Diane Parry regrouped at the beginning of the second set. She started strong by holding her service game and then followed up with a service break to lead 2-0. But after several broken service games on both sides, it was ultimately the Ukrainian who took control and won 6/1-6/4.
Tomorrow, it’s the turn of another player from the Alpes-Maritimes, Fiona Ferro, who will face the number 2 seed Sorana Cirstea in the WTA 250 in Rouen.
