The 31st World Palhasso Throwing Championship

Latest News

The World Championship of Paillassou Throwing is an old New Year tradition. The Paillassou is a puppet that embodies all the accumulated worries of the past year.

Throwing it as far as possible is a symbolic way to get rid of those difficult moments from the past and start the new year with a light heart.

This Sunday at 3 PM, the 31st World Championship of Palhasso Throwing will take place in Place Saint Roch.

The goal of the game is to throw the Palhasso, a straw man from Nice, as far as possible using a sheet. The championship will conclude with a ranking established by referees and will be followed by a Niçoise snack.

This sporting event is free. Teams are composed of two people and each team represents an existing or imaginary country. There are 4 age categories:

Category 1 Babies (0 to 5 years),
Category 2 Children (6 to 11 years),
Category 3 Teens (12 to 17 years),
Category 4 Adults (18 years and over).

This event has been linked since its creation to the Independent Carnival of Saint Roch, which is scheduled for February 9th at 12 PM in Place St Roch.
