End of the rent freeze for CROUS residences

The public establishment announced the end of the rent freeze for CROUS student housing after 5 years of this measure. FACE06 denounces a government decision that further proves that students are not a priority.

On Wednesday, February 28, the end of the rent freeze for CROUS residences was announced by the National Center for University and School Works (CNOUS). This measure had been in place for 5 years and is now ending to finance the renovation of residences. This will cause a 3.5% rent increase for the 2024 academic year. A measure that will have a significant impact on students who are already living in very precarious situations. FACE06 denounces, in this case, a government decision that proves that students are not a priority.

Decisions that hinder the fight against student poverty

The azure region is well above the national average in terms of difficulty in bearing living costs for students. The fight against student poverty is one of the main areas of action for FACE06. This commitment is realized through various actions: a free solidarity restaurant for students and 2 solidarity grocery stores, a section for defending rights to individually support students in difficulty, a list of student representatives with a majority presence in the CROUS and University boards. But all the concrete actions and efforts made to help simplify student life are hindered by this increase and these decisions.

FACE06 is today requesting the maintenance of the rent freeze in student residences. They invite other representatives to do the same, and to continue defending the interests of students across all areas of CROUS intervention to ensure a decent life for this particularly vulnerable population.
