The anti-begging order in Nice challenged in court by the Human Rights League

Latest News

Following the measures taken by the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, to prohibit begging in the tourist areas of Nice, the Human Rights League Association is taking legal action against Nice’s anti-begging ordinance.

Indeed, the anti-begging ordinance of the City, enacted on June 13, is being challenged because it is allegedly contrary to European regulations. The Human Rights League is requesting its suspension.

The association had challenged the mayor’s decision due to its lack of precision regarding the specific locations and times affected by the prohibition. In response, the city stated that the text “complies with the rules set forth by case law,” as it is limited in both time and scope.

Thus, three years after a municipal “anti-begging” ordinance was annulled by the administrative court, both parties will present their arguments on August 19 before the administrative court.
