The Carlo-Felice Theater in Genoa is an emblematic venue of Mediterranean culture. Many tourists from the French Riviera stop there to admire internationally renowned artists.

The theater is located in De Ferraris square, at the heart of Genoa, the ideal starting point for a stroll through the old town while enjoying its historic center, a UNESCO heritage site (https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1211), and its shops.

Built in 1828, the Carlo-Felice theater, named after its creator, originally housed an auditorium with 2,500 seats over five levels. The acoustics were considered among the best in the world at the time.

After several modifications, the hall suffered enormous damage during the Second World War. On February 9, 1941, a shell fired by a British warship hit the roof, leaving a large open hole and destroying the auditorium’s ceiling. On August 5, 1943, incendiary bombs ignited a fire that destroyed all the wooden backstage sets and props, without reaching the main auditorium. In September 1944, an air raid caused the destruction of the theater’s façade.

Architect Aldo Rossi oversaw the reconstruction and current design; parts of the original façade have been recreated along with a completely modern interior. The hall officially reopened its doors in June 1991, with a large hall accommodating up to 2,000 seats and a smaller hall accommodating up to 200 seats.
