The Carnival… and Nice, orphaned by Jean-Marc Eusébi

Latest News

This year, the Nice Carnival will be tinged with a slight touch of sadness with the passing of one of its most talented illustrators, Jean-Marc Eusébi.

But while the Carnival will sorely miss this extraordinary artist, it is the entire population of Nice that bids farewell to the creator of Emma the Tomato and Coucou Cougourdon, who have delighted and will continue to delight many children in discovering vegetables through the various compositions of this little man with a heart as big as this.

Carnavaline is now orphaned from its creator, born just about 45 years ago in the nearby Vesubian Valley, and who has left his mark on emblematic Nice neighborhoods such as Old Nice, the Port, Saint Roch, and Riquier, where it was not uncommon to meet him day or night.

So we will simply say goodbye to you, Jean Marc. As you reunite with a myriad of your peers who left even earlier, you will watch over us from a bit higher up, certainly with a blank sheet in one hand and a pencil in the other, to sketch us a portrait we would have loved for you to draw for us today… or maybe tomorrow.

Ciao bicoulin, and if only you knew how much we already miss you.
