An installation by Stéphanie Marin and 50 contemporary artists from Nice
HERE NICE is a city guide by contemporary artists. This art book and travel journal project intersected with Chantier Sang Neuf, which aims, with the conversion of Nice’s former slaughterhouses, to redefine and redesign a “piece of town” for an intelligent and sustainable 21st-century metropolis.
As part of HERE NICE, Chantier Sang Neuf will also host an exhibition of preliminary works and a sound installation, further inviting visitors to experience the artists’ creative process.
HERE NICE / Guide Version
The starting point for HERE NICE is a city guide mobilizing around fifty contemporary artists from Nice, unified by designer Stéphanie Marin. Each artist has provided their perspective on their city. A sensitive guide, an alternative route that offers the chance to discover the city from an original angle. Various generations of artists, coming from diverse cultures and practices, played the tourist in their own city. Thus, drawings, watercolors, photos will lead you from the must-see Place Masséna to the Liberty Hills as seen by Ben, from a deserted pier drawn by Edmond Baudoin to the bustling Castel beach sketched by Virginie Broquet.
The guide is published by a company specializing in art books: Bernard Chauveau Editions.
HERE NICE / Spatial Version
In the Abattoirs Hall, each contributing artist was able to propose an installation at a point along the path and express their city through video, sound, still images, painting… thus enhancing, by spatializing, their preliminary drawing created for the guide.
The transformed workshop into an ephemeral gallery will present the complete set of these original preparatory drawings.
In the same spirit of preserving traces and revealing the poetic content of what is to come, a former meat fridge will host a sound installation allowing one to hear the voices of the artists who contributed to portraying their fragmented city.
The KUNSTELLATION by artist and architect Didier Faustino
This inhabitable ephemeral artwork mapped out the first cartography of converting the 18,000 m² former industrial site into an eco-urban hub of current creations with cultural, economic, and societal aims.
The project was initiated by Christian Estrosi and entrusted by the Mayor of Nice to Chantier Sang Neuf two years ago.
The KUNSTELLATION created by architect and artist Didier Faustino, invents an exploratory framework that highlights and makes possible public experiments in the evolving space, scheduled in the current action-research phase named Chantier Sang Neuf.
Stéphanie Marin followed the yellow line of the KUNSTELLATION to design the HERE NICE journey.
