The best singers and musicians from various cities of the former Soviet Union have created a new choir, after the fall of communism, in order to preserve the choral traditions of the Red Army.
The 70 artists, led with ease, sobriety, and efficiency by Alexander Poustovalov, resurrect the historic prestige of the past, impressive in their impeccable uniforms, their stiff demeanor, and their undeniable choral and musical talent.
The Choir also includes soloists (tenors, baritones, basses) whose well-crafted and characteristic Slavic voices generate real enthusiasm among the audience.
The Choirs of the former Soviet Army tour stages worldwide and have conducted numerous tours in France, Europe, and America. The main mission of this ensemble is to maintain unchanged the uniform and the repertoire, which is very popular worldwide, of the best songs of the Red Army from all eras.
Although the militant and patriotic songs, including the Soviet anthem, “Do the Russians Want War?”, “Chapaev Crossed the Urals”, and “The Legend of Stenka Razin” have disappeared from their repertoire, the public can once again hear masterpieces of Russian folk tradition such as “Kalinka”, “Bandera”, “Poem to Ukraine”, “The Volga Boatmen”, “Plain, My Plain”, “The Time of the Lily of the Valley”…
We attach herein the list of traditional tunes and religious songs included in the program.
Finally, the originality of the show lies in the engaging nature of the music, which encourages the audience to sing along with the choirs.
These vocal performances are the result of long and demanding work under the leadership of a conductor who served 25 years in the Red Army in Riga, the former GDR, and Kiev: Alexander Poustovalov.
The director of the Choirs of the former Soviet Army, Alexander Poustovalov, comes from the finest music schools in Saint Petersburg, where he received a diverse musical education: conductor, composer, arranger.
