On December 7, Christian Estrosi inaugurated the Christmas market in Place Massรฉna and attended the launch of the illuminations.
โI am always so happy to meet you again at Place Massรฉna to launch our illuminations and year-end festivities,โ says Christian Estrosi, surrounded by 4,500 people who came to enjoy the magic of the Christmas village from the very first opening.
There it is, Christmas has officially taken over the city of Nice. The Christmas village, its artisans’ market, and its gourmet chalets are now accessible. This large festive area set up in the Albert 1st Garden is open every day from December 7 to January 7, from 11 AM to 8 PM. On Fridays and Saturdays, the festivities continue until 10 PM.
The traditional Ferris wheel has returned, Santa Claus has reinstalled his house, and the chalets have reopened their doors. There are 43 of them this year and they welcome a newcomer: the multicultural chalet, available to twin cities with Nice.
On the entertainment side, a new ride named โSanta’s Reindeerโ also makes its appearance alongside the usual attractions and inflatable structures.
More than 130 km of garlands
โAs every year, all territories are illuminated. And at the same level as in previous years! It is sometimes useful to remind everyone,โ states the mayor of Nice.
The Christmas illuminations were turned on as early as Tuesday, November 28, throughout the main avenues and neighborhoods of the city. 850 luminous patterns, more than 130 kilometers of garlands, 49 Christmas trees, and nearly 700 glittering trees are present throughout the city.
In a bid to respect the environment, since 2010, the city of Nice has chosen 100% low-energy LED illuminations. The municipality also states that it is making an effort on the structure of the luminous motifs by choosing eco-responsible materials.
