The city of Nice launches its “Learn to Swim” operation.

Latest News

From July 4 to August 26, the Nice Natation Azur event is organized in Nice at the Centenary beach, with the collaboration of the Regional Committee of Côte d’Azur Swimming. Every day, from Monday to Friday starting at 9:00 AM, swimming initiation sessions (learn-to-swim program), activities (water polo and flipper swimming), and individual lessons for people with disabilities are offered.

Knowing how to swim is not only an access to aquatic leisure, it is above all a necessity for individual and collective safety. With the growing development of outdoor physical sports (36 million practitioners in France) and with more than 36% of the population declaring they engage in aquatic activities during the summer, drowning prevention is now an imperative that no community can ignore.

In 2009, the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance revealed a total of 1,652 drownings (of which 1,366 were accidental drownings), among which nearly 298 were children under 12 years old. Additionally, a survey conducted among students entering secondary school showed that nearly one in two children could not swim.

For a city like Nice, a water culture is essential. The aim of an operation such as “learn to swim” is to offer children the essential skills that allow them to engage in aquatic activities safely.
