Nice has officially been awarded the “My City Allies” label with a three-ribbon level for a period of two years. The city of Nice now joins three other municipalities in France and becomes the first in the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโAzur region to receive this distinction.
The โMy City Alliesโ program is a national initiative set up by the League Against Cancer to best support municipalities committed to health prevention policies. Based on a repertoire of 30 operational actions, cities develop their strategy around combating factors deemed carcinogenic such as tobacco, alcohol, pollution, and sedentary lifestyle, as well as promoting factors that limit these cancers: nutrition, physical activities, screenings, etc.
How are the ribbons awarded?
- 1 ribbon: the municipality commits to an action plan
- 2 ribbons: three actions from the repertoire are implemented
- 3 ribbons: the municipality has implemented at least six actions
- 4 ribbons: at least nine actions have been implemented by the city
For several years, the city of Nice has developed an innovative environmental health policy. Among the praised initiatives are the creation of smoke-free areas, particularly to protect children and vulnerable populations, a recognized commitment to fighting endocrine disruptors, quality meals in schools with nearly 30% organic products, and a pollution reduction policy with an ambitious climate plan to reduce greenhouse gases and fine particles.
This national recognition follows a metropolitan action as in 2024, the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis was the first in France to receive the label โMy Metropolis Allies.โ
