There were still some doubts about Dominique Estrosi-Sassone’s election to the Senate. These doubts are gone following the Constitutional Council’s decision to reject Olivier Bettati’s request.
The decision was deliberated after the session that took place yesterday, putting a final end to the actions initiated by Olivier Bettati. None of the requests from the Nice opposition member found favor with the Constitutional Council members regarding any irregularity in the senatorial voters’ convocation or the financing of Ms. Estrosi-Sassone’s campaign.
No more thorn in the side for the new senator, who can now sit peacefully at the Palais du Luxembourg. A decision that was awaited and whose outcome was as much hoped for as feared by the political right in the French Riviera. A relief, then, just a short time before the upcoming regional elections led by Christian Estrosi.
Moreover, if Christian Estrosi were to become President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโAzur (PACA) Region, who might end up taking the helm of the city of Nice?
