This Tuesday, the greetings event for the volunteers of the departmental initiative “My neighbor 06 has a heart” took place. It’s an ideal opportunity to take stock.

On Tuesday, January 9th, the greeting ceremony for the volunteers of the departmental initiative “My neighbor 06 has a heart” took place. Eric Ciotti represented the Departmental Council in his capacity as President of the Finance Commission of the Alpes-Maritimes Department at the ceremony.

He was accompanied by Jacques Gente, Vice-President of the Department for Health and Seniors, as well as Valรฉrie Sergi, Vice-President of the Department for Disability, and Cรฉline Duquesne and Jean-Pierre Lafitte, Departmental Councilors.

Guiding seniors in their well-being is one of the priority challenges for the Alpes-Maritimes Department. On February 8, 2019, the department implemented a departmental aid plan dedicated to all caregivers. By 2030, it is estimated that a third of the French population will be over 60 years old, with a progressive loss of autonomy.

“Increasing the number of volunteers is a major challenge for the departmental community and its president, Charles Ange Ginรฉsy,” added Eric Ciotti, representing Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, President of the Alpes-Maritimes Department, at this ceremony here.

The initiative “My neighbor 06 has a heart”

โ€œMy neighbor 06 has a heartโ€ is a free initiative that connects seniors and caregivers with volunteers. This collective is part of the Departmental Aid Plan for Caregivers (PDAA). Its aim is to enable volunteers to provide support, help, and comfort to isolated seniors and their caregivers.

The project was launched in 2019 by the Alpes-Maritimes Department to combat the isolation of the elderly. Today, the initiative unites 200 volunteers with 950 people in need.

Volunteers assist seniors in their daily tasks, such as:

  • External appointments: accompaniment to the doctor, pharmacy, cemetery, etc.
  • Friendly visits: recreational activities, etc.
  • Small daily tasks: opening shutters, meals, etc.
  • Assistance with procedures: administrative tasks, internet.

If you wish to register as a volunteer to combat isolation, you can call the toll-free number 0805 404 022 or visit the website โ€œMy neighbor 06 has a heartโ€.
