The Departmental Association of Communist and Republican Elected Officials met yesterday at the headquarters of the French Communist Party Federation for its General Assembly. The main topic addressed was the upcoming municipal elections.

budgetcg-2.jpg In the presence of Robert Injey, municipal councilor and Left Front candidate for the elections, Jacques Victor, General Councilor and president of the ADECR, highlighted the essential local issues for the upcoming municipal elections.

Amidst campaigning and a critical climate towards the Hollande government and its policy deemed “right-wing”, one of the main goals is to “demonstrate the usefulness of Communist and Republican elected officials” and to “encourage the broadest possible gatherings.” The group calls for rallying around lists that pursue a leftist policy.

Many issues were discussed, such as employment, housing, mobility, public transportation, and autonomy policy for people over 60.

Regarding employment, to break out of the vicious cycle of recession/unemployment, the Association believes that current choices made by elected officials need to be reversed. Among the choices to be modified in local policy are development choices that lean towards the service sector, favoring deindustrialization. The choice to drastically reduce investments and not resort to borrowing is also targeted.

Addressing the issue of housing and more specifically social housing, the ADECR questions the political will at both the community and the state level. The Association calls for the decisive and central role of the State to make the right to housing for all and everywhere a reality.

Concerning transportation, the issues discussed include line II of the tram and the extension of line I to L’Ariane. The arrival of a high-speed line in the department is also a priority. Finally, the group wishes to create a local card that can be used in different modes of transport (train, bus, tram).

While reminding that there are more than 500 people on Left Front lists in the department, the party aims to “restore hope to the Left’s people” and “propose measures to address people’s urgent needs.”
