The seventh mandate of the Departmental Youth Council (CDJ) concluded this Monday.

After two years of civic commitments and fighting against addictive behaviors, the elected middle school students were received in the Hemicycle of the Departmental Hotel by Eric Ciotti (Deputy President of the Department’s Finance Committee), representing Charles Ange Ginรฉsy (President of the Department), Joelle Arini (Vice-President of the Department in charge of Middle Schools), as well as a representative of the Academic Inspectorate, who thanked them for their charitable and societal activities during the mandate.

True to its civic and educational mission, the CDJ has been giving young people the opportunity to learn about active democracy, reflect on societal themes, and successfully carry out projects for teenagers in the Alpes-Maritimes since 2004. A true information conduit, these 54 eighth-grade students, divided into two committees, were able to tackle various issues during their mandate (2016-2018).

Presided over by Maya Boudier, Commission 1 “Health, Solidarity and Education” focused on civic values, particularly solidarity.

Several projects emerged, such as the creation of a citizen passport (a booklet of about thirty pages distributed to middle school students), an afternoon with residents of a nursing home (EHPAD), a collection of school supplies for children in Benin, and the development of a cancer prevention plan.

Commission 2 “Environment, Heritage and Safety”, presided over by Emna Amri, focused on addictive behaviors, specifically the dangers of cannabis and alcohol.

The middle school students carried out a communication and prevention campaign called “#JYTOUCHEPAS”, focused both on the risks involved and on the appropriate behaviors to adopt. Several projects emerged, including the development of two awareness posters, a pamphlet, a radio spot, and an educational video.

With a focus on opening up to the world and civic engagement, these 54 young elected officials worked closely with several partners over two years, such as Play Bac, the French Red Cross, and the 06 committee of the National League Against Cancer (Commission 1). They also worked with the Gendarmerie, SDIS 06, and the planning and youth health section of the CD06 Childhood Directorate (Commission 2).

As with each mandate, the communication supports for the campaigns will be distributed in middle schools in the Alpes-Maritimes and made available online through the CDJ’s website.

Praised for their enthusiasm and creativity, all that’s left for the students is to brilliantly tackle the Brevet exam!
