The balls are starting to roll …
Declared supporters of Emmanuel Macron for the 2022 presidential election, Christian Estrosi, co-president of the La France Audacieuse movement, and Edouard Philippe, who has just founded the Horizons movement, have united in a common political project.
After the launch of Ensemble Citoyens! as the macronist electoral platform, of which the former Prime Minister is one of the leaders, there was talk of the presidential election … and the legislative elections when a majority will have to be organized where the ideas and proposals of a liberal right must find a central place: “We must foster a culture of coalition in our country. We are on the brink of a new collective adventure,” commented Christian Estrosi, announcing that La France Audacieuse will be part of the “common house” that has just been created.
Social Gaullist Christian Estrosi is naturally close to Edouard Philippe, who inherited a “moderate” position from his mentor Alain Juppé. Both are former members of Les Républicains. The understanding between the two, even a rapprochement or even fusion of their two movements, was in the cards. It has been made official: “I am joining the only political organization that can today legitimately claim the heritage of the RPR, the UMP, and Les Républicains and uphold our values of the right and center.”
Moreover, they each expressed, in their own way, how to stay in a party that has become sectarian (“Excluding, discriminating, banning cannot be the fate of our country. It is even contrary to the French spirit.”) and that more or less asserts the same things as Marine Le Pen, who does not call to vote for a candidate of the democratic front in the second round but winks at Eric Zemmour?
Edouard Philippe, due to his background and age, naturally looks beyond these upcoming events. How could he be wrong? In 2027, if re-elected, Emmanuel Macron will no longer be there, and the position will be up for grabs. How could one not think of it?
As for Christian Estrosi, he is not asking for anything – he himself says so – but he is keen to give his opinion on everything. For that, the ears of decision-makers need to be receptive, attentive, and friendly.
