Nice Première met with a “Ficanas”.
In Niçois language, a ficanas is someone who “likes to poke his nose everywhere,” and that is exactly the word that suits Christian Gallo, the editor-in-chief of www.ficanas.fr.
Ficanas is the logical continuation of “Potins de Scènes” but in a different dimension. “Potins de Scènes” was created following the monotone reading of the local daily and specialized fanzines that were overly enthusiastic about the live performances on the Côte. Too often, disappointment ensued. The critiques quickly expanded to include cinema and plastic arts.
Ficanas maintains this habit. Every article is the result of a test, a critical vision, an analysis. Consequently, we never communicate opinions based on simple press files, and therefore we never do anything preventive.
The main differences between the two supports are:
– Geographic area: Ficanas is primarily Niçois, while Potins was from the Côte d’Azur.
– Pagination: Potins had more than forty pages in a 15 x 21 format, Ficanas has eight in 21 x 30.
– Circulation: 20,000 copies for Potins and only 2,000 for Ficanas. However, the latter benefits from a greater internet distribution with between 30 to 300 connections per day.
Potins limited its focus to art. Ficanas covers social issues, politics, events, history (famous people from Nice), and gastronomy. Indeed, the search for quality restaurants at a very affordable price is of great interest to the readership. On the other hand, its geographical limitation tends to develop more of the Niçois character of the journal.
Ficanas does not aim, as apparently does Nice Première, to cover all topics of our city, but to unearth those that the media generally do not talk about. Or when our interlocutors are famous, to perhaps view the events they participate in from a different angle.
Cruelty easily gives way to humor, but praises must be disseminated.
Ficanas is, in fact, the journal for Niçois who love their city. But as they are also French, they grumble…
It’s a man with multiple talents and facets who agreed to reveal himself a bit by poking fun at himself.
So, Christian…
Nice Première: What exactly is a Ficanas?
Christian Gallo: A Ficanas, in Nice, is a curious person. More precisely, it’s someone who sticks his nose everywhere. In Nice, when you stick your nose everywhere, you discover a lot of interesting events, just like in all Mediterranean cities where everything happens in public squares. And often these are fascinating and engaging. The Ficanas is also materially a free newspaper and a website: ficanas.fr.
And now, in homage to chef Pierre Botticelli, ficanas is also white wine with fig alcohol.
